We read in New Testament scripture, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." (John 1:1). Even though we may not fully comprehend the meaning of these words in scripture, we know that the communication between God and Man is central to life itself. Even those who would deny the very existence of God, must utter some words or give some signs to communicate their position. When words are directed towards God, we commonly call them prayer.

Christians are urged by St. Paul to "Pray Always." We are told whenever two or more of us put our voices together in prayer, God is with us, listening.

This combined craft and prayer project allows you to gather friends and family with you, even though you are separated by time and space, to offer common prayers to God. By enshrining your prayer in a paper craft artifact and then, sharing it and its most precious contents with others, you are able to make your voices resound like a thousand bells before the throne of heaven.

What makes this project so special?

Think of a ring for a moment. It has no beginning and it has no end. So it is with our prayers to God; He sees our prayer in one unending moment, in one infinite space. In this project you will see two examples of a paper crafts that combine the process of prayer for the benefit of you and others.

These crafted artifacts are indeed unique and special:

-- Your prayers are magnified by those who receive your gifts.
-- They bring love, hope and beauty to the beholder.
-- They are constant reminders of hidden beauty and wisdom.

Become a Super-Hero of the Planet!

The primary ingredient of this craft is paper destined for the recycling bins; the refuse, the cast-offs and the throw-aways of our society! Paper waste accounts for more than 30% of the recycled waste on the planet today. Newspapers are usually read on the day of their printing and then, consigned to the depths of the trash. This project rescues some of those newspapers and other paper waste and fashions them into beautiful jewelry and useful items.

Imagine being able to say, "There is more than meets the eye here," as someone admires your hand crafted artifact?

Prayer can be as easy of using these items and remembering how they were created and by whom. Whether we choose to believe that God is in the center of our life or not, we can share in the prayer experience of the artist.

For the past ten years, I have been developing the recycled paper crafts process. This spring I tried it with my 7 year old neice and she was able to duplicate the idea by the end of the afternoon.

As a cloth doll artist, I have the opportunity to examine the creative works of many people and I can tell you that this technique she is using results in a very beautiful creation. They remind me of Japanese lacquer. I am just thrilled to put out the tablecloth and add napkins to the evening meal and have the family over for dinner. Not only are they a conversation piece, they help me to have a festive atmosphere without the fuss of a holiday meal!
